CCA or co-curricular activities, refers to ancillary courses that focus on personalized development in addition to what has been taught in classroom. CCA is an important part of Singapore's education system. To be specific, it is on an equal footing with other curriculum activities and directly linked to further education. In Singapore, students are required to attend CCA every week from the second academic year onwards, and abundant activities are developed to meet the interests and needs of the students. In the process, students are not only able to improve their skills, but also develop social skills and leadership skills to work in teams.
CCA is also indispensable in the curriculum system of SCA, which plays an important role in the overall development and personality development of students, and creates a colorful campus experience for them.
CCA is applied to instill good moral values in students, such that their soft skills can be cultivated and their sense of belonging be enhanced.
SCA's CCA focuses on helping students to develop skills of leadership and collaboration, as well as their commitment to an activity. All activities are initiated by students, and the school provides support wholeheartedly to ensure students' learning outcomes at CCA.
In addition to leadership, collaboration and commitment, CCA also develops such soft skills as: time management, socialisation and communication, internal drive and responsibility, analysis and decision-making, problem-solving, as well as stress handling and flexibility.
These soft skills will determine the future direction of students' lives, but they are difficult to develop and cultivate through classrooms, exams and assignments. Deep learning and experience of CCA activities are an effective way for them to hone these soft skills.
